How do those old sayings go?

"You win some, you lose some."

"One step forward, two steps back."

"It's give and take."

"An eye for an eye."

Now, that one really kicks it old school, and it seems like the Alternative format deals with that old saying more often than other formats. Maybe it's because we live in the Alt. world that it feels that way? Well, my case in point is that not long after we celebrated the return of the Alternative format to Chicago with the latest incarnation of WKQX, today we feel the hit of losing a heritage station. Today, it was announced that one of the earliest entrants into the format is going away. WFNX will soon stop enlightening the masses of Boston to new and exciting music as it has done for nearly the last thirty years!

We can wonder and harrumph about the reasons, but one thing remains certain: we've lost another of the greats. I worry about a time coming when what we consider to be a 'heritage Alt. station' will be one that is less than 10 years old.

In the meantime, we'll continue to fight the good fight and turn you on to some new music with FREE DOWNLOADS on the COMMUNIQUE page of this fine e-zine.

And, keep out of the crosshairs of station owners, as this message will self-destruct in three...two...one...!

Since I've moved to the "land of bad cover bands," it was a pure joy to see Shooter Jennings last week at SLO Brew in San Luis Obispo. So, I'm adding the evidence to the U.N.C.L.E. Photo Album. (Now, unfortunately, it's back to bad cover bands for a while.)
