YES, I’M POINTING AT YOU!

(The following ‘rant’ is one man’s opinion and is not intended to reflect the opinion of the publisher of this site, or any of the people who work to make this site a success for you. It is purely an ‘opinion piece’ by the author, me, G Sammons.)

And yes, there are three fingers pointing back at me…

Look, I know politics is supposed to be a no-no topic in polite discussions, even among friends, but when the fuck was I ever mistaken for polite in any of these one-sided conversations you and I have been having now for over six years? Right? I thought so. Keep reading…

If you do bother to read my occasional ‘rants’ as my associates are so fond of calling them, you well know by now that I consider myself a socially liberal Conservative, if I can be bothered to pigeonhole my political intent at all. I know that the government doesn’t have any business saying whether or not Chuck can marry Larry or whether or not Lolita has an abortion or for that matter whether or not I should be able to cultivate a naturally occurring weed on my own property for my own consumption. It’s none of the government’s fucking business, State or Federal, period. I am a free man, and this country wasn’t founded on the precept that we’re not smart enough to think for ourselves, so that the government would/should have to think for us; that’s the exact converse of what freedom is supposed to be, baby.

So, it is with complete unabashedness that I suggest the following: our politicians, all of them, are pointing their fingers at the wrong people!

President Obama is continually pointing his finger at ‘Republicans‘ and ‘Conservatives‘ for the woes our country is currently facing, an act of irresponsibility that, quite frankly, I find detestable. President Obama’s campaign raised $150 million to get him elected as the leader of the free world. You don’t spend that kind of money and then start pointing fingers. “Wah! George Bush did this and so-and-so conservatives did that.” Ball up for crissakes, quit whining like a little beeyotch, and spend less time eschewing blame for things you did or didn’t do, and focus on the job you were elected to do. You raised $150 million to get the job. Now, get it done!

In the spirit of full disclosure, I am not a fan of the current POTUS’s politics.

But let me also say that, Democrat or Republican, I don’t want anyone who hasn’t ever held down a real job, or run a successful business, responsible for the solvency/success of this country or, conversely, anyone who has held down a real job or run a successful business making excuses for a job that they were elected to do, which is manage the business of this country. So, when Speaker Boehner points his finger at Democrats and Liberals and Progressives (Oh my!), blaming them for the problems we all face because of the decisions of our elected officials, I say the same thing to him: “Shame on you.” You’re a grown-ass man for crissakes, and you and your polar opposites are kicking sand at each other like pissed-pants children in a sandbox. Shame on you! We didn’t elect you to fucking point fingers and place blame. We elected you to fix things. So, fucking fix them!

Yes, it’s a simpleton’s perspective, but please allow me the latitude to make a bigger point…?

But (and that’s a might BIG but), the people at whom Democrats and Republicans and Conservatives and Liberals and Tea Partyers and Progressives should be pointing their collective fingers at are you and me! That’s right! We’re responsible for our current collective state because we allowed it to happen. Repeat after me: “We. Allowed. It. To. Happen.”

In ways too manifold to discuss here, from either a Liberal or a Conservative viewpoint, it is “we the people” who have failed ourselves. We allowed our government to grow so large, and to become so invasive into the choices that we make every day, that we have, more or less, consigned ourselves to a type of slavery—whether it’s as a wealthy one-percenter paying 40% of the tax burden in this country, at the risk of becoming successful a la the American Dream, or as the poor and indigent who have given up on themselves because it’s easier to suck at the shriveling tit of entitlement programs.

Hush now!

That is not to say that there are not needy to whom we should ALL be happy to give—of our time, of our money or of our personal resources—no shit! But, we have failed ourselves because we’ve allowed, through complacence, the government to make those decisions for us. We have less to give of ourselves because we have to work more to pay more taxes or buy more expensive fuel, or food or clothing. Or, maybe we don’t try as hard to achieve the American Dream because it is easier to collect welfare (yes, I am aware that not everyone on welfare is a welfare fraud), as long as we can look the other way when we’re facing a mirror.

So, gentlemen politicians (uurrp, a little vomit just came up into my mouth), stop pointing your fingers at each other and start pointing them at the real architects of our current problems, us. Remind us that we don’t work for you, in fact, that you work for us. Remind us that if we hold you to account, that if we exercise the freedoms that you have allowed us to keep, that we can become successful in our own right, without need of an all-consuming public sector. Point your fingers at us and remind us that we live in a great country full of opportunities for those who are willing to leverage them through hard work, creativity, self-esteem and a roll of the dice now and then. But, also remind us that all we need you to do is to create and maintain an environment in which that can be achieved and not to put in the fix.
